I definitely suggest you all go and read their fic! It gives a glimpse of how things might have turned out from Aftran’s perspective and shows some of the internal goings-on of the Yeerks. I was so excited to get Catie’s fic! I’m a huge fan of hers, and her Animorphs designs are all so beautiful. She brings so much freshness and life to the series!
I didn’t draw a particular scene and instead opted for an illustration. I did a lot of things with this that I don’t normally do, and it was a lot of fun to work on this!
Oh wow wow, this is beautiful! I love the dramatic lighting and the colors– Karen’s eyes and her hair look like they’re glowing, and so does Aftran. Karen’s hair looks so soft! I also love Cassie’s hand reaching out to pick up that Yeerk. I really adore the eerie, yet serene vibe this picture has. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into this artwork for me!!
I wrote a fanfic for the 2020 Animorphs Mini Bang organized by @lilacsolanum and co-modded by @acavatica!
Summary: Aftran 942 promised Cassie that she would set her human host free, and never take another host again, if Cassie became a caterpillar forever. Now, held in the Yeerk Pool for questioning, she needs to figure out how to keep that promise, or else the Animorphs—and the Earth—are doomed.
Alternate Summary: Two human-Controllers playing doubles tennis with a single brain cell save the life of one very, very tired little girl.
tbh I also wonder a lot how nothlit pods work out with whales also being psychic/sentient in animorphs. even if it was only really a thing in 4 and mentioned in 27.
for me, it means that Aftran had plenty of real whale friends to introduce new Yeerk nothlits to once the war was over! It’s a reassuring thought for me that there are other sentients in the ocean for her and the others to hang with. But the “psychic whales” thing was also a little silly for a series that otherwise had a more realistic approach to Earth animal behavior, and I’ll always find it kind of funny and extremely 90′s.
And they were roommates! (oh my god they were roommates)

aahh cute.. but I think that touching a Yeerk would probably rub away their slime coat, even if you reached into water to pat one. The sketches I did here and here probably show the closest ways (apart from sharing a brain) that Cassie can spend time with her slug friend in her natural body.
It was @c-rowlesdraws birthday yesterday so I drew her beautiful and detailed fanart of her take on Aftran as a slug wearing flannel and also on a pizza, thank you so much.
